Mr. Hendricks, relatively new kid on the block located in Balwyn was an absolute delight to walk into on a beautiful sunny morning. My friend, Natalie and I chose the cafe for our mid-morning catch-up and we weren’t disappointed.
The family owned business opened in early 2014 and I’d heard about Mr. Hendricks (named after the families’ English Staffy) through another friend, and as Natalie lived close by it seemed like the perfect opportunity to check out the cafe.
As there weren’t any seats in the main dining area, we ventured outside and found a large space full of shaded areas as several customers enjoyed the breezy Melbourne weather.
I ordered my usual latte and my friend ordered a soy iced coffee. This was by far one of the best coffees I’ve had during this series of ‘cafe of the week’ posts. I loved the glass cup my coffee was presented in as well. After much deliberation I decided to order the waffles with banana and nutella from the seasonal, french-inspired menu. Natalie ordered the avocado on gluten-free toast with feta, lime and corn salsa. Both dishes were a hit and I have no doubt that I’ll be coming back here in the near future.
Mr. Hendricks has proven to be a popular spot with locals and urbanspoon-ers, with at last glance a positive rating of 91 per cent (more than Top Paddock) plus a write-up in The Age’s GoodFood mag, this cafe is bound to have longevity.
Throw in some super friendly staff and reasonably priced food (my bill was a total of $13), I will be telling all my friends about Mr. Hendricks.
