Le Péché Gourmand is perhaps Creswick’s best kept secret in the heart of Victoria’s Goldfields region.
Well, it is no longer a secret! I came across Le Péché Gourmand boulangerie patisserie, while reading my local paper and instantly had to make the short drive from Ballarat out to the sleepy town of Creswick.
After years of working at Laurent Boulangerie Patisserie in Melbourne, I was excited to try my favorite pastry, pain au chocolat and some macaron.
Upon arriving at Le Péché Gourmand – which translates to ‘sin of gluttony’ – with my friend Caitlin, we were greeted by the friendly faces of the cafe staff and equally greeted with a difficult decision in which pastry, cake or macaron we should try. I tried the pain au chocolat (of course) and my friend had the citron tart and we both sipped lattes while sitting by the open fire in the back of the cafe.
I then went back to the cafe this time with another friend for lunch and we both had the croque-monsieur, which was simply delicious. I couldn’t get over how fresh the bread was and the cheese, oh the cheese…and the ham or more like jambon. Wow, just simply amazingly, finger-licking french goodness.
I have since been back to Le Péché Gourmand on another two occasions, once with my mum and once with my friend Anne. Both times I tried their enourmous macaron. While they are a little too sweet for my liking, I feel many others will enjoy the various flavours such as salted caramel, raspberry and kirsch cherry.
